Even if you aren't a veterinarian who works with exotic animals, let me tell you that this is one book your clinic shouldn't be without. I refer to this book on 98% of my exotic cases - I suppose the final 2% belongs to guinea pigs, of which I feel vital information is lacking (dosages, etc.)

However, I would recommend this book to any clinic, as it will help you through the easy to difficult cases, and give you confidence to pursue further cases. Plus both Drs. Tully and Mitchell are very accessible and personable and will help you in any way they can.

The buyer of this book should therefore be aware of three facts:1. After having read this book you are not (yet) an expert on stochastic calculus applied to finance. You have to continue with other books mentioned in Lamberton/Lapeyre. But this book is an excellent framework that leads you to many important results, omiting proofs that are only technical. 2. Mathematics is used in many other areas of Finance too (Time Series Analysis for example). What is treated in this book is only a very small part of Finance Mathematics, but an important one.3. One should read another book with more economic background at the same time.The authors begin with discrete-time models to present many important ideas in a (mathematically) simple environment before treating the contiuous models. Introduction to stochastic integration and stochastic differential equations is brief. Stochastic integration is only with respect to the standard browning motion. After having reached the Black-Scholes model and american options, the approach via partial differential equations is treated, followed by interest rate models, models with jumps and, a good idea: a chapter on simulations.The book has very few mistakes, no important ones, only a strange layout failure on pages 6 to 7.So I highly recommend this book as an INTRODUCTION to ONE important part of finance mathematics if read in combination with another book with more economic background. Shafarevich at his usual best writing about geometries in general. Such a fascinating subject and odd that most curricula in mathematical sciences excludes it. Bizarre but not surprising at all. Shafarevich demonstrates the vastness of Geometry on a philosophico-algebraic level; geometric intuition, how it is, when it is formed in one area is applicable in another area. And that geometric intuition is capable of creating a new geometry for each sphere of consciousness. This is how he sets it up. It will be your loss if, as many technicians, you should skim over the textual explanations at the outset.

Although the difficulty of the mathematics is only first year university level, he manages to give a vast coverage and give a deep sense of what theoretical geometry is like.

The book is quite good if you know nothing about analog filters synthesis. The information is quite good and it's presented really well. It gets straight to the point and because of that it's quite helpful.
But, if you are looking for a way to implement those filters in Matlab, this is NOT the right book for you. It has almost nothing about using Matlab or any of its functions. The few functions it mentions are old Matlab 5.2 versions of them which no longer exist, are no longer useful or have been replaced by better ones.
It's a good book about Analog Filters, with almost no Matlab on it.
