</p>An Introduction to Knowledge Engineering Review
I bought this book as a *quick* introduction to the topic of knowledge engineering and it did not disappoint. The workbook style makes it very easy to read and understand the key points being described by each chapter. The exercise / feedback format blocks felt a bit gimmicky at first but I ultimately found them engaging and thought provoking.
It should be noted that a lot of the educational value in the book is left to various demonstration applets on the web. This made it difficult to read off-line (where I do most of my reading). I ended up blowing past these examples, marking the ones I wanted to return to and finding time later to do so. I would have liked an extra 30-40 pages bringing some of the value of the referenced demonstrations into the actual text.
Have a look inside using the preview feature and see if this book is for you. It's by no means a canonical reference but it gave me the right ratio of effort to subject mastery. I found the topic very interesting and will likely buy Knowledge Representation and Reasoning when I have time to read it.
