Digital and Radiographic Imaging: A Practical Approach Review

As a Biomedical Engineer I was attracted to this book by its innovative and simple layout. The presentation style cuts through to the core issues and topics and provides rapid access to important information. In this regard it succeeds admirably.

I particularly like the clear and concise illustrations and informative description of techniques and imaging systems. I think it compliments a more traditional book by providing something like a "viva" for review or refresher of knowledge. To illustrate this imagine having MRI covered in good detail in about five pages without it being crowded, wordy or full of esoterica. Quite a brilliant style.

It will also serve as a strong hint as to what is important and worthy of more study elsewhere.

I enjoyed the section on the old technique of image processing - fascinating, and disappearing fast.

The one thing I don't like too much is the focus on issues outside the core topic of imaging. There is probably too much computing information that can could easily be accessed through other books in more detail and with better outcomes. For example, I was amazed to find a section on building a website - as if Digital Radiologists need to do that by themselves. Perhaps a computing glossary would suffice.

All in all, a welcome addition to a Clinical Engineer's library as a handy "quick guide" but needing some QA on the focus of the book. I expect radiologists will find it a handy reference as well.
