I wasted so much money on "Textbook[s] of...", those enormous and expensive books I got first because I thought they would answer every question and then because I thought I was "supposed" to have the latest edition of whatever. I never ever read them. Never.

In contrast, this book is sized to be used, not quite as compact as the previous edition but more readable physically, it is the perfect "basic text" for psychiatric residents, though to write it is "for residents" is condescending, as if one will ever master even a fraction of the material that is in the book.

Like the previous version, a masterpiece of compression. It has lost an elegant historical chapter but it has gained a brilliantly expanded neuroanatomy section. To not get this if you are a psychiatric resident or perhaps fellow in one of the subspecialties, is just punishing yourself.
