The main body the text mostly consists of the authors' reviews of literature regarding various topics, and all of the sources are well documented. This makes it a great overview as well as a gateway into finding published articles on whatever relevant topic may interest you.

Not surprisingly considering the title, the book is somewhat light on the gritty details of each and every scenario you may encounter during surgery, but it's still a great review/primer. As a general dentist who does some periodontal surgery, it was 'deep' enough to learn from but did not get lost in clinically-irrelevant microbiology or epidemiology like some other perio books.

It only gets four stars because Coen's Atlas of Periodontal Surgery has good lit review too, but also has more numerous and higher quality photos and drawings. This book's lit review and the author's opinions are a bit more thorough, so it really depends on what you're looking for.
